I was lookin at the Lasermax "uni rail mounted laser".  It's about $150.  Can anybody tell me anything about this?  I am not looking for a hardcore laser system, but don't want junk either.  Please help me not make a mistake, if that is what this is.  Thanks, 9080

If you're talking about the Unimax, I have one of the red models, been using it for about two years.

It has moved around from an XD45, to a Ruger Charger (upside down on an extended rail in front of an EOTech 512... it's hell getting an employee discount) to it's current home on my Rock River AR.  I have it mounted on a double rail that sits in the triangle front sight, with a light on the other side.

You can get a 6" or 10" pressure switch for it, or you can get a kit with the laser, a pressure switch, a switch holder, and cable management clips.

If I had it to do over, I think I would go with the green version.  More expensive, but more useful - red is difficult to see in daylight.

I'm happy with mine. If you decide to run a pressure switch, you have to remove some VERY TINY SCREWS.  The red has phillips head, the green has hex head, if I recall correctly.  The appropriate screwdriver/tiny wrench is supplied). It only takes a couple of minutes to make the swap, but keep an eye on those screws - they are miniscule, and easy to lose.  I speak from experience.

Also, it's the world's greatest cat toy, if that's important to you.

I have been running the green uni-max and have not looked back. I was going to order the red and thought what the hell and get the green. We each (wife & I) have one. I am on my 2nd set of batterys and she is still on her first. We bought them about 3.5 yrs ago and always hold zero. I have taken mine off and on a few times and it returns dead on. I have them sighted in at 10yrds for the "oh shit" moments.

I kind of thought of them as a range toy until I had to put it to use to hold a prowler (later found out it was an 18yr old man wanting to do harm to a 14yr old girl that was living in my duplex) in my back yard till the police came. It worked like a charm!

Anyways, I give 2 thumbs up for the lasers.
