I want to put together a rifle for a good friend of mine. I'm not looking to assemble an upper. Just want to buy something decent already assembled if possible. He's left handed so I was thinking of getting the basic Stag upper. Are they gtg? I had two regular stag uppers when I first started shooting but ditched them because they choked on Wolf ammo. Any other suggestions? Would like to keep the upper in the 500$ range trying to give him something nice but not go crazy So far I have a stripped RRA lower and a moe stock kit |

Im a left handed shooter and I used to have a left handed stag and can tell you that it did nothing other than eject brass on the other side. What I have learned to do is make your controls ambi instead. safety selectors, mag release (i love the troy one) charging handle and bolt release ( not the bad levers I have a POF bolt release)
use a standard upper PSA freedom line would keep you in your budget and and ambi lower and your friend will be much happier |

Quoted: The brass flying past your face doesn't bother most left handed shooters? Just be sure whatever upper you get has a brass deflector and lefties are generally fine. Note: I am left handed and own 2 different rifles with regular (right-handed) uppers. Neither have given me any issues with regard to brass in the face. I will second focusing your attention on the lower though. Ambidextrous safety and magazine release are really nice to have. To me, the bolt catch is fine where it is since I can reach it with my trigger finger. |

Eta never mind the mag release for 65$+ he can add his own ambi controls after all he is getting a rifle for free |

I'm a lefty.
I have a STAG lefty and I also have standard. The left eject is nice, but not at all critical. Ambi controls are more important. If I had to choose between a left eject AR and a standard AR with ambi charging handle and selector, I'd grab the AR with the ambi controls in a heart beat. |

Thanks. I'm thinking of getting the PSA premium 16 carbine length and doing the ambi safety and mag release Eta never mind the mag release for 65$+ he can add his own ambi controls after all he is getting a rifle for free

Yeah all the controls can add up but with the new rifle I just got I found the absolute one thing I can't live without on an AR is an ambi charging handle. |
