How bad is it shooting an AR15 left handed? Does the brass eject back on you?

I shoot left handed but only have bolt actions.

Thanks!

I shoot lefty.  The A2 style has a built in brass deflector.  the old A1 style would sometimes put on down my shirt.

I'm a southpaw, and never had any problems with M16's, A1's, A2's M4's....you name it.

The only problem comes into play when you're shooting suppressed. All that backpressure shoots rights in your eyes and face. Safety glasses are a must.

This is my experience also. If you stick with a receiver with a deflector (A2 style)`you wont have any problems.

I'm actually knid of weird.  I'm left handed but I shoot my AR righty.  I can shoot it equally as well lefty though amnd half the time I do.  I have no problems with brass or the controls.  Once in a while you might catch an ejecting case.

I find that ARs are very lefty compatible.  The only control that's awkward is the mag release.  I hit it with my right thumb as I slide my hand back on the rifle on the way to grabbing a new mag.  I'm not as fast as a righty who can just hit it with his trigger finger, but not too bad.  I'm too cheap for an ambi mag release.

I'm right handed left eye dominate so I shoot lefty. I have 2 ARs one a stag 2l lefty and a regular bushy. I have equiped both with ambi safeties, and mag releases. I have no problems with brass ejection on either However after extended shooting sessions the right handed Bushy will leave a bit of soot and gas byproducts on my face. I love em both. Just my .02

You could always get a left-handed AR, say a STAG.

I'm a lefty and shoot lefty, but I've never had an issue with an AR. Occasionaly, my older slab sided Colt(s) would send one back to the brim of my shooting cap, but that was about it. all that said, I'm patientlyawaiting my Stag lefty upper from Pete. Stag makes a top notch weapon in true left handed config., but it's not necessary to get one. I'm getting mine because I like the fact it will not be like everything else out there. True, there are only 4 parts ( stripped upper, stripped bolt body, stripped carrier, and barrel extension ) that are different than any other AR, but again, it's very well made. You end up with a unique product, but not some bastardized hard to get parts for rig. If you DO get a Stag lefty, you wont be sorry.

fellow lefty here and agree with what others have posted. just make sure you get an upper with the brass deflector and you're good to go.

you can always add an ambi mag-release and safety selector later if you'd like but i don't feel awkward at all using a normal ar.

I shoot them left handed only. But I do have problems picking up a plain AR that doesn't have an ambi saftey or the Norgon ambi mag release.
I have them on all my ARs and it makes darn easy to shoot one.

In other words...Don't buy a Sportical.  I am a Southpaw as well...Never shot a rifle w/o a brass deflector...I've never had an issue with any AR that I have shot.

As a lefty I asked a similar question a couple months ago and responses were about half and half as far as putting a Stag lefty upper on the lower I already had or sticking with "standard equipment".

I ended up sticking with standard as brass ejection is not really an issue - for me anyway and I want the weapon to be compatible for my right handed family members.

I will add an ambi safety soon however.

In the future I may look to aquire a Stag left handed rifle just because.

I went with the lefty Stag... I figured an $800 rifle should be tailored to the owner.  Plus, there was no price premium over the standard righty design.  I don't have an ambi-catch, so I wrap my right hand around the magwell press the button with my thumb and guide the mag out.  Bolt release is super-easy with the left index finger, so us lefties may actually have a speed advantage during reloads.

Nice thing about the lefty upper is you don't get gas in the face or have brass flying past your nose.  Also safer if a cartridge goes kaboom.

My Colt AR15 used to pepper my right cheek with hot brass every time that I fired it. I solved the problem by installing a snap on shell deflector that I bought at a gun show. I have seen them online at Buymilsurp.com for $12.00.

Well I want to start off thanking everyone for their comments. It made it tuff still to decide.

I ran into a lefty 2HL Stag today for a decent price (or so I thought). As the rifle is just for me, I figured heck with it and bought it.

As for the ambi mag release, I'm in California and have to use  that darn bullet button so I don't think I can use the ambi release legally. I made the lower with an ambi safety already, just in case, so that is not an issue.

It was a tuff decision until I ran into the Stag lefty just setting there looking me in the face, and I grabbed it!

Thanks again!
