Had a friend get in trouble recently in Ohio for having armor piercing 30-06, I'm not sure of his situation just yet, as I have not spoken directly with him since the incident. Spoke with my father in Florida on Sunday, and some one he knows is also in trouble for having AP 30-06, though he was not sure exactly what his friend was charged with. I was going to purchase API's (projectiles only) for my 50bmg, but now I'm not sure, don't want to have any run-ins with the man. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

30.06 black tip armor piercing ammo is specifically exempted in the ATF regulations as being legal for civilians to own. If your friend is in trouble for possessing this ammo, it's either a local law, or he is in trouble for something else. Is your friend prohibited from possessing firearms and ammo?

You are fine federally, you will want to check in the OH HTF probably.

What was he doing when he got caught? I lived in MD for a while and had .50 BMG AP and API ammo and shot a few of them at the range. No one seem to be bother by them except for the noises they make
