So I am trying to decide between a 14.5 inch carbine and a 16 inch carbine. So what do you guys think is better? Any advice you can give me? What about ballistics? Will there be much of a difference? Thanks a lot. You guys are a ton of help.

I have both a 16" middy and a 14.5 from RustyTX. My personal rifle is the 16 middy. I got the 14.5 for the wife to make a LW setup on a Cav lower. I can live with a perm phantom just fine on it. Either rifle will be a nice setup, more accessories are available off the shelf for the carbine length system but the middy has the better sight radius if you use irons. If both should be banned then the obvious answer is get BOTH!! It'll piss off libs more if you have 2 |

Well, the difference in fragmentation threshold between 14.5" and 16" is M193 55g: 15 yards (90 vs 105) M855 62g: 25 yards (65 vs 90) thats assuming a 2700fps frag threshold source of my info can be found here------> Frag/Vel Charts I'd say there's a 99% chance you'll never need that difference (I assume you don't shoot for a living). But... |
| There are other factors beside velocity and range that determine weather or not a round will reliably fragment.Body mass and density...people come in all shapes and sizes nd what may break apart in one may not in another.Permanent attached dosent matter to me as the phantom is superior to the A2 hider and I dont change muzzle devices.If I have to change a barrel Im buying a barrel only assembly any way as you can still use the delta ring and front sight so that will save you at least half on the extra $30 for permanently attaching a phantom from Bushmaster any way.CMMG now offers 14.7 barrels to permanently attach an A2 hider but thats just to have the closest look possible...phantoms are still better and over all makes the rifle more compact.And those were my needs most compact and best flash supression.If I have to take a shot over 100 yds Ill use my M14 type in .308. |
