I may or may not be working on a 10" SBR and the Surefire Classic I'm planning on using will likely end up with the lens being just beneath and almost flush with the flash suppressor. Is there a chance of damage having them so close together with 5.56 ammo blastin' out of it? |

SureFire's Classic WeaponLights feature the Z32 Shock Isolated Bezel. The Z32 has a Lexan polycarbonate window (sometimes called a lens). This window, unlike the windows of many modern lights is user-replaceable. It is push-in snap-fit [rather than secured using a screw-in window retaining ring or bezel component that is permanently installed using glue or thread-locking compound.] SureFire offers the Z19 Lexan lens (window) replacement kit for Z32 (aka Tactical Lights) bezels. Some people suggest applying a coating of various things to help make cleaning the residue from flashlights windows located close to the muzzle. I don't recall specifics. Soap and elbow grease can remove the worst of it I understand (not having tried myself) The heat and blast will begin to erode the anodisation and then the aluminium substrate with prolonged and intensive exposure to muzzle blast. This is wear and tear on a light mounted so close. I don't suppose it's as much of an issue for Picatinny rail-mounted lights on rifles and carbines, but handgun WeaponLights, perhaps certain shotgun forend WeaponLights and most likely MP5 forend WeaponLights tend to enjoy a close relationship with the muzzle. I hope this helps? Al |
