Anybody have any experience with the leupold compact 3 x 9 ?? I would like to try one ,wondered how it compares to other leupolds as far as quality. Would it be comparable build wise to any other? Anybody have any experience or tips on these?? Also looking a a Burris compact as well. About the same price. thanks Kevin |

I have the Leupold Compact 3x9 on a LaRue scope mount and I love it. It's not as rugged as the ACOG but the view through the lens is amazingly clear. You can get it for about $250 from SWFA. I have some additional pics here: Leupold Compact 3x9 Hope this helps.. |

The problem with the compact scopes is that they have small objective lenses. What this means is that they acquire their targets sloooowly. You have to take time to center your eye behind the ocular. I don't know what kind of rifle you're mounting this thing on, but if you're thinking about compacts I'm going to assume that you want a reticle type scope w/magnification in the 5-6x range for an AR type rifle. I have one of the new Burris 1.5x-6x by 40mm Signature Select scopes on my heavy barreled 20" AR. It's a dangerous game scope. With the 40mm objective it acquires it's target VERY fast and it's got a 6x max. magnification which means it's also very good for precision shooting. I use it to test out my handloading experiments, but it's a very versatile rifle scope. Although its overall length is only in the 12" range, it would be a little too much for a carbine. |

I was going to use it on a flattop 6.8 SPC upper. This rifle is just a paper puncher more or less and the idea of a smaller scope sort of appealed to me. i also have another small rifle (not an AR) that seems to work better with more eye relief and a smaller scope so I thought I might try it there as well. thanks for the info kevin |
I have that Leupold on a Ruger Ulta Light in 30-06. I like it very much in that application. Also have a Burris compact but in 4X. Nice bright optics. The Burris is currently "between rifles". |
