I am considering a Bushmaster XM15-E25 16" HBar A3 ($930 in MD).  Can I remove the birdcage flash hider and install the Levang?  Has anyone ever used one of those compensators? Any accessories that are "must haves"?

You could, but the Levang's are crap.

Can you talk more about the Levange? Is the the quality, the design  or both that is crap?

Thanks in advance.

A Levang isn't considered a must have. They really don't do anything that's advertised on a 16" barrel.

Why would you remove the A2 in the first place?

"Must haves" are ammo, mags, sling...for starters

Well, they're not really crap, they just don't work real well. The idea was to reduce recoil without any side blast. They don't add side blast, but they don't reduce recoil much either. If you want recoil reduction, use a real comp, Rolling Thunder, JP, Miculek, and F2 are common choices in IPSC. If you're not all that interested in recoil reduction stick with a flash suppressor.

Edit: And for the OP-- If you haven't already bought it, DO NOT GET A HBAR! They're a cheeseball, low cost option, that weighs way too much and has no accuracy benefit. Get something mid weight or lighter. Trust me, I've been there.

Chances are he's going for the HBAR because in MD a HBAR is "cash n' carry" bypassing the waiting period

Actually I was going for the HBar because heavier barrels stand up to heat better for target shooting.  And the reason I was looking at the Levang is for noise to the shooter and shooters to either side.

I had a DPMS on order for 4 months and kept getting the run around and this HBar was on sale for 100 bucks less than it's standard counterpart.

Target shooting & barrel heat? If all you're doing is punching paper or match shooting for score a hbar wouldn't be a problem as far as weight but heat shouldn't be an issue either. I've found no difference between my hbar other than the obvious heavier weight which I do not care for at all & the gov't profiled barrels I run. If you're running full auto then a hbar can help but so does a medium contour or SOCOM barrel. If you're concerned about the concussion then the Noveske KX3 is best suited for that over the Levang but I would not put one on a 16" hbar. They are designed for SBR's. Or, just get a suppressor if legal in your state. A brake will only make the report louder than a standard A2 FH. 16" guns are not that loud anyway.

I'll try it out using just teh A2 Birdcage and see.  Will probably customize it later with a 20" fluted barrel and picatinny handguard anyway.
