What is the round count for the expected life span of the buffer spring? Will it eventually get weaker and weaker, or will it just break without warning?

It will get shorter with use.
You can measure it to see when it needs replacing.

(Might want to double check these numbers)
I think new is 10 3/4"-11"
Replace when shorter than 10 1/16" -10 1/4"

Life span is somewhere between 4-10k rounds
