I just caught the AR bug.  I finished my first build and am now ready to start number 2.  My question is, what is the lightest configuration i can get with a 16" upper?  I'd like to go the complete kit route if i can (maybe Del-Ton or J&T)  I already have the stripped lower and am planning on an iron sight version.

TIA
Barker

On a side note, thanks to everyone on this board.  I've lurked around for a while and it got me through the first build with no problems at all!

Without getting too fancy, probably the lightest 16" upper would be a Bushmaster Superlight. You could improve on that with a slickside upper receiver and a lightweight tube, micro gas block, Burris FastFire in a LaRue IronDot, no irons and shop around for the lightest BCG (I've got a Young N/M skeletonized BCG in my lightest carbine).

My Bushy superlite w/slickside upper is about 5.8lbs unloaded.

I don't want to get a Vulcan/Hesse feces storm started, but I built a freefloat 16" light barrel using Vulcan A3 carbon upper and Vulcan carbon lower that weighs exactly 5lb.
