I have seen all different kinds...most are carrying Surefire. Right now I don't have the money for a Surefire and mount right now. Is there any kind of universal holder that I could put a mag light or other cheap light in until I can get more funds?

Hehehe, I've been using a Surefire 6P I got at the PX and a weaver 1" ring that was taking up space in my old parts box for a while now with no problems.  Great quality, works fine and not very expensive.

The G2 is a good light.  Not great, but good.
Check with Calvin/BrightFlashlights in the EE for some very good deals.  He will be able to get you set up with a quality rig for less than you think.

I have a G2 and a command arms mount. Works good for what it is.

I will be buying a LED g2 soon. I may not mount it on my rifle but I want one for the extra battery life. Plus it is brighter too.

+1 I ordered a G2, Z32 bezel, and Viking Tactics mount from him about a month ago.  Great setup for what it costs.  I wanted to get a feel for having a light on there before spending big money on a more expensive setup.

Won't the recoil mess up the G2?

Yes.  You need a Surefire Z32 Shock Isolated Bezel $22

Hope this helps,
Mike

I am pretty sure surefire has done some research on this and found the plastic body of the G2 works as a pretty good shock isolator.  I have a G3 (105 lumens) on most of my rifles and haven't had a problem yet.

I have a G2 mounted on my AR using a Comand Arms mount, along with a Surefire red filter, and an additional 120 lumen bulb. I haven't had a chance to use it to shoot a piggy or a coyote yet but maybe soon.

I'll see if I can get some pictures posted tomorrow.

DocGKR and the guys he works with have been using them as is for some time.
I don't know if the body material acts as an isolator by itself or what, but he says they've been working for a few years now.

Check out the light mount made by Elzetta.  It is only $30 and will hold any cylindrical light from 0.7 to 1.1 inches.

Here is my setup. I haven't gotten to shoot at any coyotes at night yet, but it works pretty well for scanning the pasture.
