Can I just change the trigger springs in a stock Bushy or do I have to buy an aftermarket trigger group, if I want to lighten the trigger pull.

thanks,
skink

Just get some reduced springs from WOLFF>

Jus keep in mind, that lightening may not set off military primers or hard primers.

I did the fifteen minute trigger job on my Bushmaster and it works well for me, but, like the mad cow said, about half the Wolf rounds won't light. I haven't had trouble with any other ammo.

Probably 874 people in this thread will recommend Bill Springfield as the best inexpensive way to improve your trigger. I haven't tried it myself, but there are plenty of positive reviews here on arfcom.

Can do the work yourself for 1/2 that cost. Ive got a cut hammer in my AR along with Wolff springs and well lubed polished surfaces and I have no creep and it probably 3.5# pull. It also sets off any ammo Ive put in it.

IMO, stay away from the shear and disconnect unless you want some fun times ahead. Im also not a 2stage fun, I always pull thru and couldnt get the knack for it.

IF you dont know what your doing with springs and the hammer, either leave it be or take it to someone that can. Replacing springs is literally a 5 min. job and cutting the hammer is no big deal either. Everything else leave be.

The 15 min trigger job is a good primer, but I don't advice clipping a hammer spring.

Instead, you can bend the hammer spring legs equally at the coils to reduce the tension.

Note: do not bend the hammer spring down the legs away from the coil.  If you do this, the new spring leg angles will allow the end of the trigger C slot to raise the spring leg out of the annular groove of the pin when the trigger is pulled and your trigger pin is going to walk out of the receiver.

Polish, lube and lightweight trigger spring (I prefer the full power hammer springs)

This tells us you shouldn't do the trigger work yourself...FCG is not to be fucked with by amateurs. No dis intended or implied. Spend the 35 buck and send your shit to Springfield. Money well spent..

I jsut got done installing a Jard 2 lb single stage trigger in my Bushmaster Varminter.  While not cheap it's wonderful.  I had a little trouble adjusting it because it is so different then the factory trigger group but after a call to their tech I was able to fix it and just came back in from running 30 rounds through it without any problems.  I love that 2 lb trigger.

Do Not cut the spring leg. It will cause an uneven wear due to only having one leg under tension. There are lots of aftermarket triggers available.
Try a set of JP springs.  http://www.intlmidway.com/intl/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?SaleItemID=579878

A JP trigger kit will drop your pull to 3.5 to 4 Lbs.

JP yellow springs.

We do understand that if you bend the legs at the coil, you will reduce the tension that the spring will apply, hence create a less tensioning spring?

You can buy the lighter torque, hammer and trigger springs.  I did that for both Bushy and Colt including polishing the sear faces (lightly).    I was disappointed.  AFAIAC, if you want the feel of a Savage Accu-trigger, you're going to have to get a $150 plus solution.

I got a set of J P springs I onlly replaced the trigger spring and left the factory hammer spring.I never worry about a misfire because I 'm using the stock hammer spring.I got the results I wanted after I polished the trigger sear with 2000 grit automotive emory paper.

I Polished mine with a black hard Arkansas stone untill all the machine maks were gone, then brought it to a mirror sine with a felt bob and some rouge.  Still has a heavy pull but it is smooth and crisp.  I'll swap out the springs for the JP springs in a payday or two.

Anybody do the speed hammer mod themselves?  I looked at the JP and thought is didn't look too special.  I just cut the back 1/4 inch or soo off the hammer and smoothed it out with a dremel.  Need a few more bits before I take it to the range for testing.
