Here is an already put together upper with a LIlja barrel. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=190552219
Seems like I could put this together with a relatively inexpensive lower and build a gun with a Lilja barrel cheaper than i could by one that wouldnt be able to hold a candle to it as far as accuracy. Pretty new to the AR game, but know the quality of Lilja. Is this a good deal? Thanks for your help. |

I doubt you could build it cheaper. The YHM handguard cheapens the whole build for me. |

Even if the components are EXACTLY what you would have done on your own, the price is high for a used setup.
Seller would be better off parting it out, unless he gets lucky and finds someone to bite. If you want to buy an upper at that level, call Wes at MSTN. It will cost you $300 more, but it will be perfect. No reason to assume this used one is perfect. Buy once, cry once. Also, the proportion of barrel to rail strikes me as odd looking. And you don't know who put it together. Conclusion: PASS on this one unless he goes WAY lower. JMHO. ETA finish on barrel needs to be changed. That means disassembly and sending barrel off to IonBond or something. Voila, you are now within $100 of a NEW one from Wes. Wes is into Lilja and Noveske. |

The big question for me is why would he be selling an upper with one of the best known barrels available?
Answer; It's shot out? It won't shoot well, even new? It's really not a Llija? I don't know the answer, obviously. But if I spent the money for a custom barreled upper (and I do all the time) it's a matter of pride in ownership and I own something that is special, if for nobody else it is at least to me. I don't sell custom uppers/barrels from custom makers, but that's just me. |

Having a lot of money tied up in one upper can be a drag sometimes when you want to go after something else, once the newness wears off. |
