It took over a year, but I finally noticed the three little weights rattling around in the buffer assembly in my Bushmaster.  I assume that these help to smooth the recoil and action of the bolt carrier.

Could you take out one or more of these weights to 'tune' the action?  My gun wont cycle Wolf ammo.  I was thinking less weight in the tube would cycle easier.  Hmmm?

Failure to cycle with Wolf is usually a gas issue. One of my Bushmasters won't cycle it no matter what - another one will fire it no problem.

Switching between heavier & lighter buffer weights will at most (in my experience) slightly alter the ejection path of fired brass.

Weights in the buffer are to make the buffer act like a dead blow hammer.
This slows the cycle rate, and in the case of the semi, slows the B/c from retaining quicker.

Pulling the weights ( or even one of them) may help to reduce the buffer mass, but may end up with feed problems since you have just reduced the dwell time for the mag to recover before the bolt moves back forward to strip the next round.

If you have over 1k of rounds fired through the rifle, then suspect that you have a gas leak/blockage somewhere in the system (best guess would be a loose gas key, or in the case of a gas block rig, the block port not correctly aligned with the gas port).

Also to note, If you are going to run Coated Wolf ammo in a rig, the upper bearing surfaces should be extra lubed with CLP.
