Looking for a  high BC bullet that'll work in mag length. I'm building, so twist will be determined by bullet options.

Thanks for the input!

75+ grain OTM bullets (Sierra MatchKing, Hornady, etc). You'll want a 1:7 twist barrel.Although some people have loaded 75gr AMAX bullets to mag length, it may not be optimal for long-range shooting.

Let me rephrase. What's the highest BC .224 bullet that'll fit in the mag? Any way to get more room in the mag, such as the discontinued DPMS vld mag, or perhaps a mag without the overlap in the front?? Polymer mag, perhaps?

Thanks for the help.

I shoot 77 gr. Nosler Custom Comp. and  77 gr. SMK (Sierra Matchking) out of my 20 inch 1-8 twist Bushmaster Predator and Rock River SS  20 inch bull barrel also 1-8 twist with good results. 1 inch groups with  nice 14 power scope.
I also have two matching 16 inch Bushmaster M4A3 carbines 1-9 twist that I can shoot the same hand loads with EOtechs and hit about 3 inch groups.
So I would have to say for my rifles and the milder loads I shoot that 77 gr. will fit in the mags and do well at the 100 yard ranges.
OAL is 2.260 on the cartridge.  69 gr Noslers C.C.s  are also pretty good.

Thanks. I'll check out the Noslers. I'm familiar with the SMK's.
