I've seen a few pics of it sitting on the side rails.  why not?  I can't imagine that being very comfortable in your pocket.

Buy a Tapco and keep it handy in case you need to turn it in.

Most guys dont have a BUIS so they keep the carry handle handy for this purpose.with some its the only iron sights they have if the optics break down.

I'm not sure which picture is posted more, this one or the "Swis Army" AR.

I never thought of that, but I've never been in combat with an optics-equipped flattop.  I think it's a great idea, especially when Top wants everybody to account for their entire TO&E!

Of course if you're going to be firing over a baracade, that might call for a little inventiveness (move it to the side?), but it's still better than winding up sitting on the thing!

Unless the unit armorer is nice enough to take all of the carrying handles up, it is the responsiblity of the weapon user to maintain all parts even if he doesn't use it. As the company XO likes to say, "You lose it, You lose your money too." Such is today's Army. Plus the BUIS is always with the weapon. Two points on the plus side.

What's the make of the optic in the top pic?

Most likely a TA31-F.

YOU GUYS ARE ALL WRONG!  That's the new ultra secret, crane designed, LMT manufactured, Special operations only, take your birthday away for posting a picture of it on the internet HORIZONTAL FORE GRIP/ BUIS (backward under iron sight).  I can't believe all you armchair gear hounds don't have one on your AR yet.  You guys are slipping!

So what happens when a pilot has to ditch a F/A-18?

CO:  "You know you signed for that airplane."
