I currently have a G27 as my CCW peice.

Picked up a G34 a few weeks ago that has a double roll  as a 3 gun pistol and my standard "Open" peice.

I'm tempted right now to sell my G27 and pickup a G26.  Current cary ammo is Ranger SXT (RA9T).

Was wondering if anyone is aware of a site that compairs the ballistics of the RA9T to .40 self defense loads.

Perk of having a G26 is obviously I'd be able to use the mags from the G34 while shooting or as a spare mag durring CCW.

From DocGKRs page:

Go with the 9mm, I'd say. More mag capacity, same penetration/expansion.

Capacity is definately there, but look at the cavity created initially by the 40 compaired to the 9mm.

Penetration isn't everything

Neither is the temporary cavity.

Have you shot the G27 a reasonable amount yet (ie. 5000+ rounds)?  Have you gone to a good training course with the G27? You might want to do so BEFORE you spend your money...

Head the words from an experienced and respected LE Glock user on another forum:

"Just about everyone that I know that has purchased a Glock 27 has gotten rid of them. I know of a few guys that have bought them 2 or 3 times, only to sell them a short time after buying them. In most people's opinions, the 27 is uncomfortable to shoot, due to the "sharper" recoil of the .40 combined with a very small package of the compact Glock. The 27 sucks, definately would be on my short list of Glocks I would NOT get."

You need to practice and train with your carry gun--a G19 size package is a whole lot more versatile and comfortable than the G26/27 and includes the ablility to attach a light.  There is a reason so many experienced real-world end-users rely on G19's to defend themselves.  The 9 mm Glocks are definitely the most reliable.  If I were just starting out, I'd probably buy two G17's/G19's and be done with it. The important thing is the training. IF you do ever need to use your weapon to defend your life, you'll likely find your are a whole lot more effective with a good combat capable handgun you have extensively training with, rather than a small, easy to carry, but hard to shoot firearm that you are relatively unfamiliar with.

Remember, shooting on a square range is a whole lot different than using a pistol in a dynamic two-way environment. Personally, I would recommend you don't buy another handgun until you go to get GOOD training--take your pistol you carry to a class with Scotty Reitz at ITTS, Louis Awerbuck, Jeff Gonzales, Pat Goodale, Ken Hackathorn, Larry Vickers, Paul Howe, Pat Rogers, etc... Then you will know what you NEED versus what you might want.

Re. caliber and ammo choices: www.tacticalforums.com/cgi-bin/tacticalubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=78;t=000964.  Basically all the standard service calibers work when fed good quality ammunition.  The platform I pick tends to dictate the caliber.  If I carry a Glock or Sig it is in 9 mm; the S&W M&P is the first .40 S&W pistol I have been totally thrilled with; while a properly customized 5" steel-frame 1911 in .45 ACP is a superb, unparalleled choice for the dedicated user.

Carbine_Reloaded.

In support of Dr Roberts post I see you are in Arizona.  Check to see if you can get into one of Giles Stock's handgun classes.  I found Giles to be an excellent instructor and he knows Glocks very well.

My brother-in-law has a Glock 34 that I'd love to have. It shoots great and accurate as hell. I don't think I'd want it to be my CCW, but I would probably carry it before the G27. I have a G23 and the recoil is manageable, but I bet it is difficult in the G27. There is absolutely nothing wrong with carrying a 9mm for a CCW. Some guys want to turn it into a "my dick's bigger than yours" contest with the larger caliber argument, but it's hard to argue against a well-placed 9mm shot to the center-of-mass.
