Over the weekend I ordered a complete M4 lower from Ameetec Arms ($212.00 shipped!).  Their choices for uppers are 16" chrome-moly for $400.00 or 16"chrome lined for 550.00 ($575.00 with M4 feedramps), all seem to be great deals.  My plan for this rifle is to use it for shooting Practicle Rifle matches at a local shooting range.  Should I save the extra $150.00 and put it towards an optic of some sort or will I gain an advantage with the chrome lined barrel?

Tell us more about these "practical rifle" matches.
Typical range to targets?
Types of targets?

Most real "3 gun" competitors will be running a cut down 20" barrel for the best combination of the smoother gas system and longer handguard or sight radius if you are shooting with iron sights.

If it's more of a CQB type match, then a 16" carbine will serve you just fine, although it will jump around more due to the shorter gas system.
