Friend asked me to look at his A1 style upper as he was having problems zeroing.  He's a bit of a procrastinator as he's had this problem since he bought the rifle in 1986 lol..

Anyway I take the upper home and as I'm getting ready to check the alignment I notice that I can move his FSB  1/4" left/right on the barrel with my bare hands..  FSB pins seem to be in place, just not doing alot of good.  What's the easiest fix for this?  remove pins and put new ones in see if that works?  That much play i'm guessing the barrel was cut wrong from the beginning..

Thx in advance

Pull the hand guards and make sure that the whole barrel isn't just rotating in the upper barrel socket first.  Could be that the problem is just a loose barrel nut.

If you do find that it's the FSB only that is moving on the barrel, then really oversize taper pins may be the answer to solve the problem (if you are still going to use taper pins).
