The Hand Guard Cap on my Smith and Wesson M&P Sport 2 will 'snap' up and down by about 1/8th of an inch. Sounds small but it is absolutely noticeable as there is a distinctive click when it shifts and in general is very unsatisfying.

Video of Problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UER2hw4f9ws S&W's web site is chary of spec's, but the difference between a Government profile barrel's .750" gas block journal, and a "lightweight" barrel's .625" journal is about 1/8". Jest sayin'....
