My "coyote killer" is a Remington R-15 18" barrel with an A2 stock. Lately when I shoot it I have been noticing the loud "boing" sound coming from my buffer spring. I tried searching the problem and others have recommended greasing or lubing the spring. I don't really want to do this because of the build up. I figure they are meant to be run dry. Also, others have recommended changing to heavier buffer or a flat wire buffer spring? What have you guys tried? Any suggestions to help my it stop sounding like kids spring-loaded pop gun?

The receiver extension parts are meant to be run lightly lubed with CLP as a protective layer.

But you can check the end of spring winds just encase there is a bur that is scrapping down the inside of the receiver extension, making the sprong sound even louder.

Welcome to the wonderful world of ARs. Eventually you will get used to the beautiful "sproing" you just have to put more rounds down range.

I realize that most AR's just make that sproing sound, but why do some do it and some are virtually silent?

a buddy of mine thought the same thing about his AR.  it drove him crazy.  he later realized it was his 4 prong flash hider that was causing it.  it acted like a tuning fork after each shot.

Mine only "sproings" when I work it manually, get that slow spring tension

my rifle-length sproings
and my shorter ones are more violent to notice

I recall a thread sometime ago where the longer buffers sproinged more than others ?

The "Fix" for the "SPROING" is to apply a light coat of grease to the recoil spring.
This pretty well silences it and does a great job of lubing it.
