I know I'm probably beating a dead horse and this has been covered before, but I'm still a greenhorn.

I purchased an Odin Works low profile gas block (https://www.odinworks.com/Low_Profile_Gas_Block_p/gb-75.htm) for my M&P Sport 2, and want to ensure I dont damage anything.

Will I need to heat the gas block to install it once the original front sight / gas block is off?  I'd like to avoid this if I can.
Would freezing the barrel or WD40 work instead?

It should slide on with little to no effort

What He Said.
Should just be 2 pins to take off the FSB

Great.  Just been scouring the web and I'm reading that people have had to heat the block to expand it to get it to fit over the barrel, the non-clamp style blocks anyway.  Lots of misinformation on the interwebz, just being cautious.

It should slight right on.  Occasionally the gas block is an interference fit and requires heat or polishing.  This can be caused by a slightly large barrel, slightly small gas block or two parts at the edge of their tolerances.

Contacted Odin Works and they say the same thing, no heat required (great customer service BTW).  The gas block will go well with their new O2 Lite handguard  I just ordered!

Another question.  Just got all my stuff in and attempted to put some of it together.  I noticed that the rear set screw for the new gas block is right on top of the old gas block pin holes.  Will that interfere with tightening down the gas block?

Does everything line up otherwise?  When you tighten the screw, does the want to shift block shift position?

The pin holes for the OEM gas block go through the barrel, like what you see in this thread (PSA barrel front sight base cut through

Both pin holes are like what you see in that picture's front pin hole.  I don't think this will cause much heartache, but what I dont know about ARs could fill a pool.

if you do it again get a clamp on. My SLR sentry 7 is a clamp style and have had zero problems with movement.  Also dont forget that spacer deal that sits on the shoulder of the barrel in between sight post and shoulder. if you butt the gas block plum to the shoulder it may not be lined up correctly with the hole in the barrel. May have to leave just a hair of space between shoulder and block. My terminology may not be correct but i think youll get the idea

Just turn the gas block upside down and the set screw hole should line up with the gas port.  You can see if it needs to be up against the shoulder or slightly off. If it came off a rifle with FSB...it probably will line up slightly back.

Thanks jerks! Now you got me second guessing myself after I put it all back together!

I went back and scooted it forward off the sholder about 1/16 of an inch.
