I think a lot depends on reticule design, what lends its self to close range shooting will not be ideal for long range/ precession shots. I think its hard to beat the Burris Mtac reticule for close range shooting, but then for long range shooting the viper vortex reticule would be better suited. IMO the Burris XRT, and SWFA SS are a good middle of the road compromise of up close speed, and still have long range ability. Edit: I pulled these pics from the long running thread on low powered scopes, the Burris XRT, and Vortex are also illuminated (not in the pics) but are not as bright as the other two. I run a PA 1x4 on my .22, at 1x it's effectively just a dot sight. |
| Well you can always get an offset down the road if you decide its worth it to you. FWIW, Im a big fan of the SWFA 1-4 and have a 1-6 on order. With the 1-4 I never felt the need for an additional offset cq sight/irons (mostly 3gun here), but I understand some guys do. |
