I recently put together a carbine lower (differing receiver, parts kit, and stock assembly) with someone else's help; my first time assembling an AR. Everything went together fairly easily, and the completed lower has been sitting patiently for several weeks now, but I recently realized that there's a problem with it. The buffer tube does not screw far enough into the receiver to cover the buffer retainer pin, thus allowing the pin to pop free of its recess when pressure from the buffer is removed. I'm guessing that if I were to drop on an upper, and rack the action, the retainer would likely fly loose and jam up the bolt carrier. I looked at the alignment of the tube on the receiver, and it appears that as-is, the timing of the stock is already "too far" inwards, and screwing it far enough to properly hold the retainer would leave the stock on sideways. Likewise, I suspect (haven't had a chance to try it yet) that running the entire tube in a full rotation would place it too far forward, and either block the center of the retainer, or else intrude past the receiver ring, and prevent an upper assembly from closing onto the lower. Is there something I'm missing here, or are my parts simply out of spec to one another, leaving me screwed? Or is there some other simple fix for this problem? Thanks! |
