| Just bought a Spikes Tactical lower reciever and need some advice on what lower parts kits are good. My first build and i want it affordable but good. Looking for a solid parts kit |
|
I have bulit 3 so far and have used 1 rra kit while the others are dpms. All kits were bought before the parts shortage.
I really can't tell the difference between the two kits so price just becomes the issue with me. I am thinking about upgrading the trigger on my 6.8 in the future. As for now dpms in my area is running 70 to 75 bucks and that is too high for what you get but the kit is good for a first build. I am thinking about a skag kit I have found at a dealer close to me. Right now it's going to be price vs availability. The closer to 50 bucks the better. good luck. |

Looking for a solid parts kit Take a look at Spikes LPK. For $125 you get an Ergo Grip & KNS anti rotation pins. http://www.spikestactical.com/z/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=41_23&products_id=228 It may be a little bit expensive but it gets it all out of the way. I recently picked up a few from JSE but now they are sold out. http://www.jsesurplus.com/dpmslowerreceiverpartskit.aspx Here's a DPMS for $67 IN STOCK.: http://global-tactical.com/dpmslowerpartskit.aspx LPK's are getting easier to find & prices are dropping a little. Take a look around from the site sponsors. I am sure you will find one you are happy with. |

The only thing I have noticed with the DPMS lpk in my rifle is with the safety selector. Switching between safe/fire there is a point in the middle where the selector tends to sit at. I don't know if all kits are like that or not though.
I had this to on my DPMS kit. If you take the selector out, you'll notice a flashing mark in the middle of it from the mold when the part was cast. Take a small file to it and it cleans this right up. |

The Spikes kit looks good IDK who makes the bulk of the parts but the consensus is that the Rock River Arms kits are the way to go I have that in mine and let me tell you they are premium high quality rock solid and any other expression you can think of for good shit. All I did was bob the hammer and put a light spring kit for the trigger. I've had a few people who know AR's compliment me how nice the trigger break is.
It almost looks to me like the Spikes kit is based on a RRA kit and knowing those guys they used what is considered/they feel/is the best. |

Spikes uses DPMS lpk, then they give you the option to upgrade the grip to ergo and add kns anti-rotating hammer/trigger pins. |

Welcome to the build world.
The info available on this site is vast and priceless. The folks here have many many years of experience building guns. The only extremely minor downside to this vast ocean of experience and talent is just that, the vastness. DPMS Panther likely makes bazzillions of LPKs per year and you could be assured any kit not meeting high expectations will be thuroughly discussed here. For 60 bucks I got a complete DPMS lower parts kit and it fits and functions flawlessly. |

I had the same problem with my (Anvil Arms) DPMS LPK safety selector wanting to sit in the middle. Really bugged me. I finally took the selector out and used the edge of some fine sand paper to file it down. This made it better, but did not entirely fix it. I might consider going at it with a file. This should be noted as a sticky for anyone interested in DPMS LPK's. |
