Recently, I picked up an M16A1 upper and am waiting on my NDS 16A1 lower to arrive.
Who makes a fair priced, USA Mfgd. lower parts kit?.... any "service grade" kits better
than the others? Thanks.

DPMS is what I use for most of my builds.(retro and non-retro)
They can be "grayed" using navel jelly.
Only the mag button has to be painted gray.
The trigger guard can be lightened using steel wool.
The selector does have a tic though.

...and you'll end up with a collection of extra A2 grips.

I don't know the retail price from Midway, but they're in stock now.
If you have a C&R or FFL they're pretty cheap.

You can buy a LPK from Essential Arms without the A2 pistol grip.  It saves you $2 off the price.

I bought a Stag LPK for my build, and the only complaint was the selector.  When it's in the "SAFE" position it is not horizontal, but slightly down, and it has a DEEP tick mark.  Looks like someone made it using a cold chisel.  I ended up using a modified M16 selector.  Well, another complaint is that it came with another damned A2 grip.  I wish I had the intestinal fortitude to just throw it in the trash, but . . . . they might be RETRO some day!

I use RRA for my modern builds, but I agree with Tex for the retro stuff.  DPMS parts work well with the naval jelly if you are not using original USGI stuff.

Wash them, apply naval jelly for 10-15 minutes and lightly scrub with a nylon brush. You will see the black rub off and a nice gray exposed.  Wash, rinse, dry and oil.

I find most old USGI parts on EE and GB, but FCG's are a problem.

I resorted to a naval jellied DPMS FCG with a Springfield trigger job which made a great looking, functioning, inexpensive FCG.  The one I just did was $55 total.

If you don't need the entire LPK, I have a spread sheet of individual parts, part number and price for RRA @ RRA and DPMS @ Midway.  If it would be useful, e-mail me and I send it to you.  (I have no idea how to post it here).

This might be useful if someone can figure out how to help you post this online.

I used a combination of Stag and Colt parts, and will be trying out Jerrell's retro parts soon.

RLR350, e-mail sent.
I can post it for others.

Sent, Thanks Tex.

You will see DPMS parts are considerably more expensive piece by piece vs. buying a complete kit.  The chart does not consider availability and the prices were current as of a month or so ago.

Click on the PKfirearms tab/link above.  They have DPMS and RRA lower parts kits and they are a great company to deal with.

All good information. Has anyone had recent dealings with
SARCO? Their prices seem to be reasonable.....
I've dealt with them but it was 20 years ago....
