| Who makes and where to buy an inexpensive lower? Cheapest I found is spikes so far. Anyone know of somewhere cheaper? Thanks for the input. |

Tactical Machining does price matching from what I have heard. I got rid of all of my other lowers and replaced them with TM units if that says anything. Great upper to lower fit and a nice no-nonsense rollmark.... crosshairs. TM actually machines their own lowers in-house. What a concept.... Spike's lowers are good, but I don't care for the selector markings and the spider. Some do.... I don't.
See disclaimer.... V |

I actually received a Spikes and a "Tactical Machining" lower on the same day at my FFL. The Spikes general appearance, finish, and quality were great (better than my LMT even). The TM lower, not so much. Dull and cheap in appearence. Not to mention a few other problems related to my order. Just go with the known quality manufacturers and you will be happy.

r guns selling Sharpes lowers for $55 (forged). Couple of people have already received them and put them together with only minor cosmetic issues. I just put an order in for one.
Centerfire is also selling billet lowers by TNW for $89.95 Spikes is selling for $89.95 And Midway is selling Yankee hill Manufacturing for $90 (plus they have $10 coupon codes) |
| IMO a lower is a lower (for the most part), so buy the least expensive one you can find. I personally don't mind cosmetic deficiencies considering I will inherintly scratch it through use. FWIW if you do not like the fact that Spike's paints their markings, you can also get one un-painted. I have a Spikes and a Mega billet lower. Both are great. |

Quoted: I believe that is true. Spikes lowers are sourced from serveral manufactures, depending on what kind of markings you get. Sabre, and YHM are others I think. I've seen a post somewhere that breaks it down by serial number prefix. Is this what you are talking about? http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=282&t=166787 |

Widener's is selling LRB Arms stripped lowers for $79 here. I'm leaving to pick mine up from my FFL in about 15 minutes; I'll let you know how it is. |

The LRB Arms stripped lower that I just picked up (made by JV Precision Machine Co.) looks outstanding. The roll mark and engravings look fantastic. My only minor gripe is that there's a small bit of forging flash left around the trigger area. |

+1 regarding the Aero Precision Lowers from Surplus Ammo. They're great lowers. Here's an interesting article about Aero Precision.
According to Badazzar (Spike's), in a thread last summer, Aero Precision supplied the lowers to Spike's for the group buy. |

V [/quote I just like the no "slop" fit when you actually assemble the lower and put an upper on it. The no nonsense rollmark is a bonus to me. I just don't care for the cartoon snakes, spiders, etc. on my weapons. Put some CLP on the lower after you assemble it. They used to rub them down after anodizing, but people complained about it, so they send them out dry now. I know because I called them and told them the finish looks bad until lubed and asked why they don't put something on them after anodizing. The first one I got looked really dull (dry) until I hit it with some CLP. I didn't like the finish either until I lubed it. They actually make an excellent lower.... |

Well, since you are just a normal customer, and clearly do not work for them |

Well, since you are just a normal customer, and clearly do not work for them Did TM do the engraving? Do not hesitate to send it back. I'm sure they don't want to waste your money any more than you do. I have had a few issues and they have always taken care of me. As a matter of fact, I always come out ahead when there is an issue. They stand behind the materials and workmanship and there is no sense having all that money in a lower that you can't use for the intended purpose. I don't expect perfection from every company because I run a business and things happen, even when you care about what you are doing. I really just want some good, timely, customer service when there is an issue. I have had minor issues with TM and they have went above and beyond to make me happy, so I praise them. Send the lower back if the engraving isn't to BATFE spec. I don't think they will argue with you about it if it is truly out of spec. |
