I've got a completed lower that I want to paint, the only thing is how to get the bolt catch pin out without damaging
the lower. Anybody done this before? Tips and learned lessons welcome. Thanks. |

What you're looking for is a flat sided pin punch. ADCO sells them and I'm sure Midway and Brownell's has them too. I "think" they are made my Sinclair.
At any rate about half of the round punch is machined away so you have a "D" shaped cross section. This fits perfectly against the mag well so you can remove the bolt catch pin. Resonably priced too. |

I actually JUST stripped a lower this morning for the same thing.
I just electrical taped the lower up around in that area and punched it out with a Dasco 1/16" pin punch i got at home depot. Went fine, no problems... just gotta be firm with it, you don't want to hit it too soft so you start deforming the roll pin, you need to give it a good rap so it comes out quick. You don't want to be sitting there beating it up.. 1 or 2 firm raps on it and it pops right out. Also.. you are about to refinish, i wouldn't worry THAT much about marking it up |
