Noob here.  I am thinking about building a AR chambered in 7.62x37.  Can I use a 5.56 lower or do I need to make sure I get a multi lower?

The lower should be fine I have a 7.62x 39 upper And standard lower works. Most lowers now adays are stated multi cal so you should be good.

Welcome the the disease-infested dark side.  The caliber on the receiver isn't anything legal –– only the serial # matters.  Your standard receiver will be just fine.  I also have a 7.62X39 built on a .223/5.56 labeled lower.  Watch out for magazines!  There are very few that will feed the 7.62X39 round reliably.  I bought a ProMag and it required mods to work at all.  I now have three ASC mags that are flawless.

ETA: [Edited To Add] You'll also need a different bolt [standard bolt carrier] and an enhanced firing pin.  My barrel came with a matching bolt and I got the firing pin from Model One.
