I've got a Colt lower that I purchased back in 1988/1989 which is marked "Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter 2". It was a stock Carbine when I bought it but it has gone through some changes since then. My question is that it does not have the reinforcing fences that are commonly associated with the A2 series. The ejection port side of the reciever looks like a slick side SP-1 with the exception of the forward assist. There is no fence around the mag release or for the pivot pin detent. Has anyone else run into one like this? The SN is SP352XXX.

Thanks for any information

That is the way the SP1 and SP2 were made and they are common.
