Are Spikes Tac. lowers a better product than lowers from lets say... Bushmaster or other common producers? Some seem to think a lower is a lower.

For the most part a lower is a lower as long as it is made to the correct specs.

The biggest difference I have seen is the quality of the finish and the attention to detail.  Flashing on the back of the receiver, tapped rear take down hole, taper on the magwell,  and the finish.

Take a look at the AGP Arms lower reciever. They are a cut above all the others I've seen. Machine work is perfect in every respect on the two I've built.

The same can be said about Mega Arms...

I've never seen or even heard of a flawed Mega lower.

Mega is my favorite remember they make lowers for several other company's there are only a few companies that do.
To the OP pick the roll mark you like best and buy it.   As of now it's hard to beat the PSA lowers

Most any manufacturer's lower will be OK. However, you get what you pay for. The cheaper the lower, the more likely it will be out of spec somewhere. You are less likely to find something out of spec on a Spikes, DD, LMT, Noveske, ect. than on a Bushie/DPMS/RRA.

Spike's just buys lowers from a bunch of different suppliers and I think noveske's Lowers are cmt, just like rra. Have you seen an out of spec bushie or rra lower? I have had good luck with both but obviously only owned a few

Yeah mega makes nice stuff

I've heard they are really nice. I waited for them to come back in stock for a long time and was finally able to order one on 4/25. They still haven't shipped it yet. They showed as sold out again shortly after I ordered mine.

Mega is among my favorite. However, a few years ago they had a batch lowers with exceptionally tight mag wells. I you had one, Mega would make it right.

I've built many different AR15's and top three lowers I liked have been the Bushmaster, Nodak, and Sun Devil. They are all good lowers, my next build is going to be a AR15.com lower and a Spikes Zombie lower =)

I have friends that have used others lowers like J&D and what not, they all work great.

I've had good results from the 4 PSA's I've built; not real thrilled with the holes for the roll pins on the Aero Precision.

Have a Spikes I need to build out.

Will update on Quality Arms in about a month.

Mega is outstanding

Another I would mention is GTVC billet lower - These guys are interesting in that the finish is finalized on the machine vs resorting to bead blasting.  VERY high quality and precision.

FWIW .... I recall at least two threads on arfcom over past few months where AGP openly admitted loosening tolerance levels.  Can't say first hand with the newer ones, but the older ones were without doubt on the higher end of the tolerance levels. Just something I would check into if you decide going this route.

For the most part, a lower is a lower. Pick your favorite roll mark and move on.

Can't say that I've ever heard bad things about Mega and from the pics I've seen online, they do appear to be nice.

I prefer Tactical Innovations as it comes drilled and tapped for the takedown pin detent, finish has been flawless on the 3 that I've purchased, and they dont have a large rollmark (or any for that matter).
