Ok guys..I'm sure this has been covered many times on this forum but, I'm just too lazy..and the search engine isn't the best. I want to build a Colt M16A1 lookalike and need some questions answered as well as some imput from those who have gone through this process. I have seen some awesome looking M16A1 clones on here.
I just bought a Colt A1 upper assembly w/ Buttstock and Buffer Assembly from CDNN and am wondering which Colt lower matches up best with the fit and finish of the upper? I would perfer the lower have the mag fence, small front pivot hole and have AR-15 rollmarked too. Does a lower that matches up this well even exist? And if it does, where can it be had? And if it doesn't exist what's the closest I'm liable to find, and what will I need to do to the finish to match the upper?

Unless you get a preban Colt it is a no go.  You can contact Lauer Custom Weaponry and order a lower in Colt gray.  They have a cool set of crossed rifles as a roll mark instead of a ghey animal.

It's going to be a preban colt to meet those.  I think the blue label lowers marked AR15A2 will fit this bill.  However, most blue labels are darker and colors wont match up....   keep in mind you will have to have oversized trigger/hammer pins if you want a small hole pivot pin.

This is why for my M16A1 lookalike project... I just went with an old style RRA lower.... color match does not bother me in the slightest, and if it did, I would do a Moly-resin finish on them.

Actually the finish of the lower doesn't matter as I'm going to Camo the whole thing with Norrell's Moly Resin anyhow. I'm more concerned with the fit, features and rollmarks. Perhaps going with a lower other than Colt (GOD forbid) hock.gif  would be the way to go. I just hate to do that. After looking at the Colt rollmark thread I'm thinking even a lower marked Sporter or Match HBAR would be OK. So a lower in the area of a 6530,6601 or 6700 would be a good match. I just have to find out the pivot pin size of these.
Perhaps SAW has something I could use..I'll have to email Tina and see.
