Does anyone know... Will the M16 fire selector work with the AR15 Hammer/Trigger/Sear?

The M16 selectors I ran across at the gun show last week didn't have the cut on the right end of the selector where it protrudes through the lower. I was looking for something along these lines.

These also had a detent groove which went all the way around the shank of the selector, and 4 indentations for stops.

I would grind out the portion that depresses the sear for legalities' sake or sell them and buy what you want.

I haven't bought it yet, I was just curious if this combination of m16 selector/Ar15 parts would function together.

"Safe" position should work normally.

"Fire" position should work normally.

"Auto" position will probably work as safe, depending on just how the nub on the selector reacts with the trigger, since your AR-15 trigger will likely have a closed back.

Grinding off the nub on the selector will cause the "Auto" position to work as semi.

I don't think it will go to the Auto position b/c the AR trigger is closed on the rear part that mates up with the safety. An Auto trigger is open on the rear.

But "FIRE" and "SAFE" should work OK?

Affirmative.

If the safety is used as issued, the "auto" position wil give you a second safe, because the shoulder that depresses the disconnector will bear on the closed end of the trigger, as noted above.

Personally, I'd recommend grinding that surface off of the safety for two reasons.  First, it gives you a second Semi position, and if you're left handed, like me, it gets trhe durn thing away from my trigger finger.

Second, it eliminates the M16 nature of the piece, so that you're absolutely in compliance w/the law.  I know that it's highly unlikely to ever be an issue, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hate to be all gloom and doom but ATF has stated that installing even one M16 part into an AR15 semi is considered making a machine gun. Make sure you grind off that little nub that would depress the disconector and you should be good, it cannot operate as an M16 selector any more.

I'm right there with Tom on this one. Unless you have a registered M16 or sear you should not have any M16 parts in your AR15. ATF has stated that M16 parts can be modified and used in an AR15 but I would strongly discourage anyone from installing unmodified parts in an AR15.

Unless, of course, you would like to be pounded in the ass by a guy who is covered with tattoos, drools in his beard, and only shows three teeth when he grins.
