Don't get this ammo that often. M955 AP. Gun shoots dead on with M855A1 and Mk262. No rezeroing after pulling off from my 10.3" URG.

Any of you guys build any AR/M16A4 clones using barrels with heavier profiles then the A2/A4 Gov. profiles? I built my AR15A4 with a 20" Criterion Hybrid contour barrel. I still need the KAC M5 RAS rail, rail covers and VFG.

Time to buy an ACOG and complete my clone.
Is the discrepancy between TA01's and a TA31RCOA4's BDC reticle noticable? Is the extra cash for an A4 worth it over a cheaper TA01? |

I snagged a newish FN 20" government barrel finally, it's time for an A4 clone to grace my safe once again!

Fired my rifle recently but sadly somehow lost my light cover. The infrared filter I have left also keeps dropping the lense out for some reason

What do you guys think of this for an a4 clone? Everything looks correct to me. |

Hey folks, I considered posting this question in the Barrels subforum, but I figured all the A4 experts are here, so I’d get more feedback from this thread. I have two FNMI A4 barrels, one ‘03 FNMI-marked that I got last year off eBay (believe it or not) and an ‘09 CAGE code barrel that came from Ohio Ordnance as part of one of their complete uppers. The FNMI-marked barrel appears to have some kind of smooth coating over the parkerized finish, and I was wondering if that is something that FN did in the past when finishing their barrels, or if that might have been something a secondhand owner did. In the photo below, you can see that the FNMI-marked barrel (on top) has a small chip in the finish just behind the crush washer (which is not tightened down, just FYI) where the gray parkerizing underneath is showing through. I noticed a little blemish there and picked at it with my fingernail, and the coating flaked off a little.
Attached File The FSB does not have this coating, as you can see below. The barrel came without a front handguard cap, which I was planning to add, but it looks like there’s almost no gap behind the FSB to accommodate the thickness of the cap. I haven’t dealt with this before, so maybe there’s enough room to fit the thin sheet metal cap, but I’m wondering if a replacement FSB might have been installed and pinned without the handguard cap installed. The FSB is F and FN marked, so it could be original. Attached File Lastly, the left hand feedramp has a bit of metal flash, or something, along the left side, which could be easily filed down (or worn down by feeding rounds), but it seems a little sloppy. Attached File I also have an FNMI A2 barrel, which is not coated like this - its finish looks the same as the CAGE code barrel. Thanks for any insight that you all can offer - I’m pondering looking for another FNMI-marked barrel or maybe asking John Thomas to refinish and reassemble this one (it has some finish wear on the FSB ears and needs a sling loop added also). I’m being picky, but I’m trying to clone the brand new A4 that I was issued back in ‘04 and would like it to look new. |

Pros and cons of the two BFG A2 stock sling adaptors. Thanks

Those are legit. Numbering is different than the standard RAS. I believe they were originally produced for Canadian forces. They have the SAS type bottom. For some reason I’ve see a lot of these on M16a2 rifles in NG units.

Meant to quote you for the above response.

Asking again before I forget; will pick up a legit rail if this one is suspect. This came equipped on a Colt AR15A4 I recently acquired in a trade. All in all, it seems legit; however, I've never seen an M5 void of any markings under the top rail or the bottom rail having a screw. It also came with a VFG and a full, bagged panel kit. Compared to the M4 RAS I have, the panels, bag and VFG are legit. This is my first M5 so I'm not familiar with them, it just differs from all of the pictures I've found on the net. If anyone with a Colt AR15A4 version has gotten tired of your M16A4 clone, i have a trade offer in the EE for a Colt M4A1 SOCOM.
I love the look of these rifles. |

Waiting on my kac m5 rail to be delivered so my a4 can be done! Oh and I snagged a NM carry handle for long range fun. :)

What lower parts kits is everyone using for their clones? Also, I understand there are "F" marked and "FN" marked bolt carrier groups. Which would be correct for an FN m16a4 build?
|
|
|
I’m planning to use Colt LPKs in all clones, since they’re as close to GI as I can get and probably share suppliers for at least some of the parts with FN. my understanding is that FN military rifles have had both FN and F on the bolt carriers at various points, but the plain F seems to be the more recent standard.
