I have read most of "FAQ" posted by tatjana and a lot of posts here. i even searched the net for the 5.56 M1A4 and found no results.

I BELIEVE that's South African M193.  Troy would know this one for sure.

Yes, M1Ax is all South African.  The larger the number, the newer the lot.  M1A4 is from the early 90s, and there was a lot of it around two years ago or so.  The newest stuff we saw was M1A5, which was mid-90s, and hasn't been around in several years (pre-Y2K).  The most recent lots of SA ammo were M1A2 and some M1A3.

Great. I picked up 600 rounds of them yesterday. They got the number 96 & 14 on the rim and O38 D 96 on the box. i thought 96 may be the date? any way i guess that really doesent matter. was just wondering if they was the same as m193. Thanks again.

Yeah, I think 96 was the cut-off.  I have some M1A5 from '97.  THAT was great stuff, as was M1A4.  M1A3 is less consistant, and M1A2 is even worse (though still great for surplus ammo).  It would appear that this stuff wasn't stored in ideal long-term-storage conditions (i.e., it was exposed to heat), and the older the ammo, the more heat degradtion it suffered.

Too bad all of the newer stuff is gone.  Heck, it looks like most of the older stuff is gone too.
