Hey there,

Ok so I bought a M261 kit here from a member who said he only put 500 rnds through it and it looks it.  I took it to the range, figured out some mag tweaks and shot fine the rest of the night except for a couple of failures to set hammer.  The next week I shot outside (25-30 degrees) and lo and behold I start having some double shots (never 3 or more though) I also start having more feeds where the round made it to the chamber but the hammer isn't cycled.

I think both of these issues are caused by same problem, that is that the unit does not/is not able to cycle the hammer back for a) in case of doubles to set the sear and b) in case of not cocking to set the hammer.

I've tried lubing the crap out of it and I shoot it in a Colt lower that has worked fine with .223.

Any ideas (yeah, besides buying a Ceiner..)?  I wonder if just shooting the piss out of it to "break in" the units spring may be what it needs.  the spring does seem to be pretty strong.  Too bad I get a few (more) strange lolks at the range when the doubles fly...
Thanks, Steve

Sounds to me like the hammer isn't resetting.

Try hi velocity ammo and see if that helps.
It may just need a break in. Be sure to use plenty of lube.
You could also try a lighter hammer spring.

ETA: Mine loves the Federal bulk stuff
