Hey guys, Kind of hard to find info about this but I'm thinking of buying a remote tape switch backplate for my M3X. Looks like Streamlight makes 2 different models, one for long guns and one for shotguns. The shotgun model appears to keep the manual toggle switch like the pistol model. I like that feature but it comes with a stretchy cork screw type cables. The long gun model comes with a straight cable but does not retain the manual toggle switch. First off, is that correct? If so, can the cables be switched? Anybody know who might have these in stock for a decent price? Lastly, what about tape switches in general? I've always tried to avoid them but for the way I want to set this one up, there is no way around it. I see a lot of people use them, including pros so I'm guessing they can't be that unreliable? Anybody want to guess at a failure rate for remote tape switches? Thanks |

Hi cgv69, To use the M3X with a remote switch, you will need the to change the back plate to the rifle back plate. Insight Technology is the manufacturer of the M3X, Streamlight was just a major dealer of their lights. The back plate with the curly cord remote switch and the rocker switch back plate is for the M3 series of lights and it will not work with your M6X. You can get a rifle back plate and curly cord remote switch they will work with your M3X. Some of the best prices that I have seen are from www.smartgunner.com. Good Luck, Pat |
Thanks for the info Pat. Do you have one of the rifle back plates for an "X" series light? I can't tell for sure from the pic but it does look like you can manually activate the light (both "on" and "momentary") from the back plate in case the tape switch fails? I hope that's the case anyway |

Hi cvg69, I do have a M3X with the rifle back plate. The rifle back plate switch is three position, OFF, Momentary for use with the remote switch, ON which turns the M3X continuous on. The remote switches are very durable and most of the problems will be from a dirty remote plug or dirty remote plug receptacle. Pat |
Hey Pat. Well the switch part is disappointing. Even if it's not needed, I like having as much redundancy and backup systems as possible (within reason). As far as the issues with dirty plugs or receptacles, can anything be done about that like applying silicon around the connection to keep dirt out? Thanks again |

Hi cvg69, The remote switch plug is good and tight, you just have to remember that you need to clean your M3X once and a while. I find that the only time I ever have any problems with any of my lights is when I shoot them a lot and never clean them. I think that if you get the rifle back and remote switch you will be happy. Thanks again for all the info Pat

I agree but apparently that is not an option with the "X" series lights. Quoted: Tapeswitch itself is exceptionally large/rugged, a nice thing to see when so many appear relatively fragile. Good to read. Thanks BTW - Nice PS90! ![]() |
