ok so i am looking to make mine a better looking rifle... i hate the length of it the way it sits now, if i woulda known i would have gotten a mid length upper, but hindsight is 20/20 ya know :P So what i am wondering is there any suggestions to kind of create a better looking front end? also i was wondering how hard it is to remove the stock front sight gas block thingy and replacing it with maybe a mid like rail with a stand alone gas block and a flip down front sight? Any help would be greatly welcomed.

There is a FAQ tacked to the top about making a low profile gas block out of the FSB. I believe most take it off the gun so they can refinish it but I'm sure you could use a dremel and some patience and then some cold blue or other black finish.
ETA: It's about 3/5 the way down the page in the "build your lower, upper, FF, make your own Low Profile gas block." |

why not just lose the UTG stuff and use an extended carbine rail like from MI

Well i have found the DD ones that require you to take the sight off to put the rail on, but it is 300 some odd bucks, for that i could almost buy a brand new upper |

Buy once cry once. JP sells one with a split for a front sight base aswell. If you search you will find more. Quailty ain't cheap. or shave the fsb down and add a rifle length FF "tube" for 70 bucks. I do like this idea... anyone used these? and how is the quality? any pics installed would rock! http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPHG-EXT |

Are you looking to make your rifle look better or actually change it's functionality? Are you after more rail space because it looks cool or because you actually want to make use of more Picatinny real estate?
It looks to me that you have a 16" barrel before the A2 birdcage. All that's needed to remove the FSB is to remove the muzzle device, then (using a punch) remove the FSB pins and remove it from the barrel. Read this thread for more help. |

Yep, a Dremel with cutting wheel and grinding is all you need to cut the FSB. A shaved FSB is arguably the best type of low profile gas block since it uses pins to hold it in place, not set screws or a clamp. I'm planning on a Troy TRX Extreme rail for my current build-in-progress. |

Install is not that bad, really not hard at all for a free float tube. |
