| Can I use the barrel step down for the M203 on the M4 Handguards for something other than an M203(Verticle handgrip, etc)? |
|
I haven't seen anything out there made to attach at that point (other than grenade/flare launchers). I have a KAC vertical grip that attaches to the Picatinny rail and for me, if the grip were to be as far forward as the step in the barrel, it would be uncomfortable and awkward. I'm only 5'8", so maybe for a larger person this would be a non-issue. oh- you might have this moved to the uppers/lowers etc forum where it would be more appropriate. |
Attaching a vertical grip in the notch on an M-4 carbine would be a bad idea, even if it fit the user. You would be introducing uneven stress forces on the barrel, to the detriment of accuracy. The whole purpose of "freefloating" a barrel is to limit the interference of the barrel vibrations as the bullet travels down the bore. Consistancy in these vibrations is what leads to accuracy. Adding another variable force acting on the barrel will not help accuracy. I don't have the math ability or physics degree to back this up, but it seems obvious to me. |
