I am having ADCO cut down my 16" to a 14.5 with phantom, and contouring under the handguards, ie gov profile. Im not having the M4 "cut" put in the barrel. Has anyone else done this and does it look funny???

I think it would look just fine. It will look like a standard carbine barrel, with the advantage of being lighter.
For civilian use, the cut out in front of the FSB is mostly cosmetic... unless you are lucky enough to have an M203
