[ARCHIVED THREAD] - M4 flat top question

OK I'm considering a new flat top build but I forget
I can have an m4 barrel extension with an upper that doesn't have the m4 cuts???
or I can have an m4 upper with a barrel extension that doesn't have the m4 cuts??
or both have to have the m4 cuts??
Now I'm really confused.

Obviously you want the M4 cuts in both the upper and the barrel extension.
You can get by with the M4 cuts in the barrel extension but not the upper.
If you have M4 cuts in the upper but not the barrel extension you may have feeding issues.
