Just built me lower and have been looking in to getting a build going on an upper. My question is: What are M4 ramps? I want to build a 16" carbine/M4 style upper so I dont want to buy a barrel and upper if they arent going to work together. The upper I am leaning strongly torward is the RRA forged A4. Still dont have a barrel in mind yet. Thanks for any help.

The M4 feed ramps extend into the reciever

Watch out though.

To make a LONG and involved story/explanation short.

For starters, don't mix an M4 feedramped barrel(actually, barrel extension, but you know..) with a non m4 feedramped upper or vice versa.  It will just give you a headache (you can see how a mismatch would be a problem from YardDogOne's excellent picture).  Both M4cut and non-M4 cut uppers are readily available get the right one..

Just because you buy and M4 barrel does NOT mean it have M4 feedramps!  In fact I'd say MOST times, they don't.

Finally, M4 feedramps are really not necessary.  I have them on my Middy, but that's more for fun than function (Not that I get a huge jolly from my feedramps).  Get the barrel you want.  If they happen to offer it with M4 ramps.  Sure, buy the M4 ramps then get an upper reciever with m4 feedramp cuts.

The problems with these feedramps case in with people A.)making their own M4 cuts in both the reciever and the barrel with the dremel tool. B.)people accidently buying an M4cut barrel, but having a non-M4 upper and deciding to make the cuts in the upper with the dremel.

I know, I know, I thought I was gonna make a long story short, but hey.
