| Hey, What kind of accuracy do most people get out of a M4 upper with Iron sights? At 50m I'm under an inch but at 100M it was about 5 or 6" and like 6 inches high. This was with a new RRA upper and Federal 55 grain from Wholesale hunter. I know I'm a better shot than that cause with other rifles I do better. Will it break in or is that what to expect? And why the group growing? Thanks |
| The front post at 100yds being to big might be part of your problem. The 55gr works in 1/7 or 1/9 so its not the bullet, and being under an inch makes it a safe bet there is nothing wrong. What i did with my M4gerys was get a high power scope just to mount on my urban rifles and test with the 3 types of loads i prefer to see just how good they are after sighting them in at 50yds with irons. If thats out of the question then get a 6 inch or so round orange stick on for your traget and aim for the bottom center edge. Its easier to rest the top of the post on the edge line. |

http://www.fdcc.us/M4_600yards.asp Check out this link. new-arguy and I did some research concerning the effective range of a 14.5 M4. edit to add... On another occasion I tried 600 with irons and was able to get some good results with Fed Gold Match 69 BTHP. My shots spread out around 18 inches. However, the short sight radius of the M4 will not allow the minor adjustments needed to effectively reduce the spread. I think that is about as good as one can expect from irons. |
