| I'm stuck between either 14.5" w/phantom or 16" w/phantom, both of which would be a bushy barrel. Mostly going to be used to home def. and range use. Any info would be good |

14.5" with perm. Phantom you can use standard bayonets but if you ever want to change anything like a gas block/ front sight or change to a free float forearm it is a pain in the butt to grind out the pin and reweld the flashhider after your done and make it look right. 16" you cant use standard bayonets. But its easy to make the above changes down the road as you don't have to mess with the perm. attach flash hider. I have owned both 14.5" & 16" barreled rifles and I could not tell any accuracy difference between the two barrels. I personally own an 14.5" now and love it. Its just a little shorter than a standard 16" with an A2 flash hider. Just my $.02 E3 Edit I have taken my Phantom off twice now for 2 different up grades and it sucks grinding it out and rewelding every time. The next time it comes off its going to have to get a new Phantom installed. E3 |
| I just wrestled with this very same question this afternoon and about two hours ago I ordered the 14.5". Knowing that the Phantom is permanently installed from the get go, I just won't plan on doing anything to this rifle that requires its removal. And I wanted the shorter, and lighter, barrel. |
| I would go with the 14.5" with perm Phamtom. Also I do think that little inch or so makes a difference in CQB since i've used both. Only reason you would want to remove the flash hider is if you get a suppressor. And its not hard to remove and then perm install your suppressor mount. |
