A couple of our Comp M4s will not shut off or to be more accurate go dim enough to use with night vision since they never really shut off.  On the the lowest setting they are still daylight visible.  It isn't a big deal really unless you want to  use them with night vision and we seldom ever do that.

Any ideas what could be done to fix this short of sending them back?  Honestly it isn't worth sending them in since we really don't use them with night vision often and we can always just use a different weapon.  But I would like to get working right to prevent anyone from accidentally using them with a PVS-14 and ruining it.

Thanks guys.

They do turn off though, correct?

I have a Comp ML3, the "L" of course being low light or whatever (not NV compatible). Are you sure you don't have some non-NV type?

Other than that, you'll just have to turn down the -whatever it's called- on the PVS-14's to keep it from washing you out.

I can't imagine them doing that because they're broken in any way.

My M68 shut off 100% and the NVG settings were NOT daylight visible, ever.

ON a side note, how will the NVG's be ruined? They can take in a lot more light then when the M68 is putting out.

I haven't done it myself, but I was told that the dot will leave a shadow or a dead spot in the tube if  you use it at too high of a setting.  Kind of like burning an image into an old television screen.  I don't want to test it out.

The rest of the Comp M4 type M68s don't turn off completely, but the dot is only visible with NVGs at the lowest setting(so they may as well be off).  These two are different in that they won't go that dim.  If I had to compare them I would say the lowest setting on the two screwy ones is about equal to the 4th or 5th click on the ones that are working correctly, maybe a bit more.

The CompM4 only comes in the NV compatible model.

Correct.  Daylight brightness settings could burn the tube also.  Sounds like if you're using M4's then there is an issue.  Side note: On every M4 I own, the dot is still visible through NV even when the Aimpoint is turned off as long as there is a battery installed.
