Every now and then I see some JHP rounds like these http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/820-rd-can-556-federal-xmt556tnb1-62gr-otm-barrier-usmc-factory-2nd-ammo

Can anyone offer commentary on performance vs "standard" m855? I ask because it seems to me that a hollow point opening that small would not be terribly effective. That's just eyeball engineering on my part, no facts to go on. Are these round truly more effective on humans than a regular JHP?

As I understood it, the OTM design is designed for more accuracy by shifting center of mass backwards, not so that the bullet expands on impact.  Flying straighter through intermediate barriers is apparently a second property.  Google-fu is failing me on why that's the case.

Against relatively short range meaty targets in a home defense situation, I am not convinced either the 62gr OTM or M855 will be significantly better than the other in terminal performance.

This, OP. The ammo you mentioned is NOT M855, but something completely different.

Got it. As mentioned above, intended for stability instead of the more traditional use for JHP.  Thank you all for the ansers.
