I asked this in the optics, mounts, and sights section but got no response so I'm trying it here.  What is the threaded hole in my MATECH BUIS used for?

I guess it's for the top secret nuclear powered infared/night vision/laser/popcorn maker attachment since no one knows.

I do know it has the same threads as the bolt used to secure the Matech to the upper and the hole next to it.Maybe for a set screw to keep the sight housing from bowing when its tightened as can happen when its secured making the windage knob hard to turn.In any event its  bolt fits those threads as well.

Interesting about the threads.  I had wondered if it was for some kind of set screw.  I may put one in there just for the heck of it, if no one tells me what it's for.

From the look of it its posistioned so if you did put a screw it would contact the upper under the rail on a flat top.
