Hey,
I'm new to the forum, and would like some input on a possible .308 Build. I've already got an ar15, I'm just looking for a bit more power, and well, another rifle. Anyways Ive been compiling a list of parts and I just wanted to get some input/feedback on the items and their compatibility with one another. Here it goes: MA-TEN Upper /Lower set DPMS 18" .308 SASS Barrel DPMS .308 Bolt Carrier Assembly DPMS SASS Gas Block (.936 diameter) Mid Length Gas Tube Gas Tube Roll Pin Rock River Arms Lower Parts Kit w/ 2 Stage Trigger BLK MAGPUL MIAD Grip Kit Primary Weapons FSC30 Compensator AR-STYLE .308 CHROME SILICON BUFFER SPRING AR10 Buffer Magpul PRS AR-10 Stock A1 Receiver Tube Samson Star-R Handrail Thats it. Am I missing anything? Do I need to buy a DPMS barrel nut as well, or does the barrel come with it? Or does the Samson Handrail come with a new barrel nut? I've already got optics and rail accessories for it. Are all the above parts compatible with one another? Let me know what you guys think. |

just makes sure samson sends you a dpms style barrel nut.
with that being said, thoughts on your build, i would spend the extra hundred bucks and get a noveske barrel, DPMS for the most part are decent rifles and shoot great, but have had a long history of QC issues, noveske on the other hand are pretty much good to go from the door, i would pay the premium and be done with it the magpul PRS, tried it and its kind of retarded, its comb adjustment is too far back so that if you use it half your face is off of it, and with low rings its not really giving you anything more than an A2 other than LOP. its a solid heavy stock, but for me,i dumped mine for an a2 and UBR other than that, its looks pretty good and im sure you will have a blast with it |
| I like the PRS but I have to admit but the UBR is nice for barrels less than 18" (balance factor for me anyway). You could also look at Black Hole Weaponry for you barrel. They are DPMS patterned so you could still use the DPMS BCG but drop the $100 SASS gas block for a standard gas block. I've used three of their barrels for my builds (two were Ma-Ten builds) and their extension are tighter than the DPMS (not really a bad thing) and they shoot really nice. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ill give some thought about the Barrel. Im definitely going with the PRS though. I have the UBR on my current AR and love it, and feel like the PRS would be better suited for the new rifle. I can always swap them around if I feel the need. I just got my Bushnell ET5154 today. If I build the .308, the bipod and scope go on it.

Well I ordered everything this morning. Got a called from Samson about the Handrail about 2 hours later. Apparently the Star-R doesnt work with AR-10's... Oops. Also The rail does not include the barrel nut. Had to spend an extra $30 for a DPMS nut from Samson. I went with the Star-10 13.2'' Rail, which was an extra $79 more than I was planning to spend. I'm just glad they saw my mistake and contacted me before I bought the wrong handrail. |
