After installing the grip, I noticed this gap.  Aesthetically, it doesn't bother me, however I wonder if it would be an entry point for
grime and moisture to work their way to the selector spring and detent channel and gum up the works.

Thoughts?

Doubtful. Of all the problems I've seen reported on the AR, a sticky selector isn't one of them. I think you'll be fine with your rifle as is.

If you want the grip to fit better, you could remove it, see where it's sticking, shave it down and fix it. You could also give it a few light whacks with a rubber mallet to get it "on there". I've installed a lot of MIADs and can't say I've ever had one not fit to my satisfaction though the rubber mallet has come into play a few times.

Thanks for the input.

The selector's axis can get dirty, and debris can get into the detent holes and detent groove.  It doesn't prevent the selector from functioning, it may make the rotation somewhat mushy and the detent engagement not as positive as when it was clean.

My gap wasn't as large as that, but all I did was unscrew it, dremel slightly, fit it snuggly with a rubber mallet, screwed it down, and there are no gaps now.

Ugh.  I'll take it off and try to sand it down to see if it will fit better.  If that doesn't work, I'll go back to the A2 grip since
it would be a pain to take the Magpul grip off to clean out the detent holes.  That thread locker on the Magpul screw makes regular removal
a hassle.

I'd break out ye olde rubber mallet before I took it off.
