| Are military personal able to purchase .223 ammo at on base commissaries and if so how much do you think they pay for it? |
| Unfortunately, the majority of Air Force exchanges are downsizing anything to do with hunting or firearms. The PX at Ft. Sam Houston is likewise unfriendly to shooters. I wish I knew the status of the PX at Ft. Hood-it might be worth the drive if they had anything worth looking at. |
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) stopped carrying firearms and ammunition around 1993. The Army is pussified beyond belief when it comes to private firearms, exceeded only by the Air Force. Navy Exchanges at Marine bases still carry firearms and ammunition. |
Yep.... used to be that you go to the commissary for the beans and the PX for the bullets.... the times, they are a-changin' |
Hmm...That must be why a buddy of mine, and fellow arfcommer, owns multiple NFA weapons ON BASE.....and runs an FFL out of base housing. All with the blessing of the installation commander, and his CC.

Sir, with all due respect, you're wrong on this. There is an Air Force Base that sells firearms, ammo, safes, and optics in the state I'm in. Supposedly the PX on Ft Richardson does the same for the Army. Agree 110% with everything else you said. ETA: I wish I could buy ammo at the commissary--somewhere between the frozen foods and bread aisle would do fine. |
And I suppose you'd have us believe it's just coincidence that you happen to be posted there, eh Maj? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. ![]() Bear (And no, I don't know anything about those reports of .308 hording in Northern Arizona..... ) |
That is a NC thing, you need their signature to get NC firearm purchase permits. In states w/o purchase permits, no CDR's approval is needed. |
True if you live on post. I lived in Fayetteville, and all I needed was the PMO's sig before going to the Cumberland County Courthouse for purchase permits. You're right about everything else, the purchase permit deal is a NC thing .Here in Lousiana, living on post, I can buy whatever I want and then just register it within 3 days. |
Love to have details on that one. |
